Product Details
Nitrile rubber, also known as NBR or Buna N, is a widely used sealing elastomer recognized for its resistance to petroleum-based fuels and lubricants, coupled with a relatively low cost. It is formulated as copolymers of acrylonitrile and butadiene, with variations in acrylonitrile content affecting its performance; the acrylonitrile (ACN) content can range from 18% to 50%, with standard NBR typically containing 34% ACN. Lower ACN content results in improved low-temperature properties, while higher ACN content enhances resistance to fuels and polar lubricants. Nitrile compounds can be sulfur-cured or peroxide-cured; while sulfur-cured nitriles provide better low-temperature performance, they are susceptible to hardening at elevated temperatures. In contrast, peroxide-cured nitriles offer superior heat resistance and lower compression sets but are more costly and challenging to process. The operational temperature range for standard nitrile rubber extends from -40°C (-40°F) to 100°C (212°F).
