The conical thread of GN 743.7 fluid level sight glasses allows for a metallic seal to be achieved, as the male thread tightens and wedges into the corresponding female thread. At the reference level "A," the male thread matches the diameter of the female thread, enabling hand fastening, while tool tightening enhances the length of engagement and seals the screw connection. A sealant, typically fibrous or a Teflon band, is generally employed, with the thread being roughened to prevent shifting during fastening. These fluid level sight glasses are suitable for use on pressurized oil tanks and are temperature resistant up to 230° F (110° C).
