CaloriTech™ CX series screwplug immersion heaters are designed primarily for water heating in tanks or vessels, featuring brass screwplugs with NPT-style threads and copper sheath elements. The heaters can come with factory-installed thermostats for controlled liquid temperatures and are intended to remain fully immersed in liquid at all times. Typical models have standard 1" to 2-1/2" NPT tapered plugs, with other sizes available on special order. The thermostat-equipped screwplug heaters also come with moisture or explosion-proof housings and include a convenient terminal block mounted on a slide-out trolley. These immersion heaters are noted for their operational efficiency, often showcasing close to 100% efficiency and ease of control, making them a safer option compared to gas or oil. They are installed via a threaded half coupling located in the vessel wall, positioned below the minimum liquid level yet above the bottom to prevent sludge build-up, which should not cover any part of the heating elements. Horizontal installation is preferred; however, vertical installation may be possible with prior consultation with the factory. The effective operation of the immersion heater relies on maintaining a balance between convection currents and the temperature difference between the heater and the liquid, with careful attention required for viscous liquids that may hinder convection currents.
