Caloritech™ CX Series screwplug immersion heaters are primarily used for water heating in tanks or vessels and feature brass screwplugs with NPT-style threads and copper sheath elements. The heaters are available with factory-installed thermostats for liquid temperature control and are designed to be fully immersed in liquid at all times, utilizing natural convection currents for heating. Typical configurations include standard 1" to 2-1/2" NPT tapered plugs, with other sizes available on special order. Thermostat-equipped models with moisture or explosion-proof housings come with a convenient terminal block mounted on a slide-out trolley. Installation involves using standard 1" to 2-1/2" NPT tapered plugs, with alternative sizes available upon request. The heater is installed through a threaded half coupling on the vessel wall, positioned below the minimum liquid level yet high enough to prevent sludge build-up over the heating elements. Horizontal installation is preferred, though vertical installation may be possible with prior consultation. For optimal operation, the immersion heater must establish a balance between convection currents and the temperature differential between itself and the liquid being heated. Care must be taken to achieve the necessary heat transfer rate from the heating elements without causing overheating. The immersion heaters are designed for high efficiency and safety, and while electricity costs may be higher than gas or oil, they typically offer close to 100% efficiency.
