Caloritech™ CX Series screwplug immersion heaters are designed primarily for water heating in tanks or vessels and feature brass screwplugs with NPT-style threads and copper sheath elements. These heaters can come with factory-installed thermostats to regulate liquid temperatures and are intended for full immersion in liquid at all times, utilizing natural convection currents for heating. Typical models are equipped with standard 1" - 2-1/2" NPT tapered plugs, with alternative sizes available on special order. All thermostat-equipped models with moisture or explosion-proof housings include a terminal block mounted on a slide-out trolley for convenience. The heaters have a high efficiency close to 100%, making them safer and easier to control than gas or oil options, while installation requires a threaded half coupling located well below the minimum liquid level to prevent sludge build-up around the elements. Standard installation typically favors horizontal orientation, although vertical installation may be considered with prior consultation. The operation of these immersion heaters requires a balance between convection currents and the temperature difference between the heater and the liquid, with particular attention needed for viscous liquids that may impede convection.
