Caloritech™ CX Series screwplug immersion heaters are designed primarily for water heating in tanks or vessels, featuring brass screwplugs with NPT-style threads and copper sheath elements. The heaters can come with factory-installed thermostats for temperature control of the liquid, ensuring they remain fully immersed at all times. Typical units have standard 1" to 2-1/2" NPT tapered plugs, with other sizes available on special order. Models equipped with moisture or explosion-proof housings incorporate a terminal block mounted on a slide-out trolley for convenience. Installation requires a threaded half coupling in the vessel wall, positioned below the minimum liquid level yet above the bottom to prevent sludge build-up that could obstruct heating elements. While horizontal installation is preferred due to the necessity of draining for heater replacement, vertical installation may be possible with factory consultation. Operational efficiency is achieved through the establishment of convection currents; viscous liquids that hinder these currents can pose challenges. The heater must maintain an appropriate heat transfer rate to prevent overheating while ensuring effective heating of the liquid.
