Caloritech™ CX Series screw plug immersion heaters are designed primarily for water heating in tanks or vessels, featuring brass screw plugs with NPT-style threads and copper sheath elements. These heaters can be equipped with factory-installed thermostats to regulate liquid temperatures and are intended to be fully immersed in liquid at all times, facilitating heat transfer through natural convection currents. Standard models have 1" to 2-1/2" NPT tapered plugs, with other sizes available upon special request. Heaters with thermostats housed in moisture or explosion-proof enclosures come with a convenient terminal block mounted on a slide-out trolley. The installation involves threading the heater through a half coupling in the vessel wall, positioned below the minimum liquid level but sufficiently above the bottom to prevent sludge accumulation. Horizontal installation is preferred, though vertical installation may be possible with prior consultation with the factory. For optimal operation, immersion heaters must maintain a balance between convection currents and the temperature differential with the liquid, particularly when dealing with viscous liquids that impede convection.
