Caloritech™ CX series screwplug immersion heaters are primarily designed for water heating in tanks or vessels, featuring brass screwplugs with NPT-style threads and copper sheath elements. The heaters can be equipped with factory-installed thermostats for temperature control. They are intended to be fully immersed in liquid at all times and utilize natural convection currents for heating. Typical models have standard 1" - 2-1/2" NPT tapered plugs, with other sizes available on special order. Thermostat-equipped models with moisture or explosion-proof housings include a terminal block mounted on a slide-out trolley. These heaters ensure close to 100% efficiency and ease of control while being safer than gas or oil alternatives. Installation involves using a threaded half coupling in the vessel wall, positioned below the minimum liquid level while allowing space above the bottom to prevent sludge build-up. Horizontal installation is preferred, though vertical installation may be possible with factory guidance. Operation requires a balance between convection currents and temperature difference to ensure effective heat transfer, particularly in viscous liquids that hinder convection.
