Caloritech™ CX series screwplug immersion heaters are designed primarily for water heating in tanks or vessels, featuring brass screwplugs with NPT-style threads and copper sheath elements. The heaters are available with factory-installed thermostats for precise control of liquid temperatures and are intended to be fully immersed in liquid at all times, utilizing natural convection currents for heating. The typical design includes standard 1" to 2-1/2" NPT tapered plugs, with other sizes or types available via special order. Models equipped with moisture or explosion-proof housings include a terminal block mounted on a slide-out trolley for easy access. The immersion heaters are installed through a threaded half coupling in the vessel wall, ensuring that they are positioned below the minimum liquid level to prevent sludge build-up, which should never cover the elements. Horizontal installation is preferred for maintenance ease, although vertical installation may be possible with prior consultation with the factory. The heaters operate effectively by balancing convection currents and temperature differentials, although heating viscous liquids may require additional care to avoid overheating the elements.
